Equipment Lineage: ALICE Suspension
ALICE means All-Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment. U.S. Army historical sources place its adoption and introduction in the 1973–1974 period. The larger field-pack load used an external-frame carrying system, with shoulder straps forming one serviceable part of the suspension assembly.
