Equipment lineage and kit origin
ALICE stands for All-Purpose Lightweight Individual Carrying Equipment, a U.S. military load-carrying system adopted in 1973. Its Large Field Pack and external-frame architecture supported the larger existence load and became a long-lived reference for field load carriage.
The self-inflating ground mat was not part of the historical ALICE specification. This exact pack-and-mat combination is an AKMAX commercial carry-and-sleep field kit rather than an official historical issue set.
